Entebbe & Kampala



The botanical gardens, on the shores of Lake Victoria, offer beautiful mature gardens (including medicinal plants), wonderful lake views and many birds and primates. It is a great place for a gentle stroll or to just sit and relax.

Primates: Vervet monkeys, Black & white Colobus monkeys.
Common birds: African Harrier Hawk, African Fish Eagle, Great Blue Turaco, Hammerkop, African Jacana, hornbills, kingfishers, egrets, cormorants. 



Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (zoo) has more to offer than you may at first think. As well as a collection of rescued animals, there are walks with excellent birding, a cafe with lake views, play areas for children and conservation activities. Hire your own personal guide if you like.

There is also a variety of hands-on experiences including a behind-the-scenes tour, chimp close-up, keeper for a day and more. 

There are a small number of basic bandas and apartments where you can spend a night providing the rare chance to wake up amongst the animals.


Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary
Located in Lake Victoria, Ngamba Island is home to a number of orphaned and rescued chimpanzees. The Chimpanzee Trust engages in conservation education and offers visitor experiences to raise funds: 

  •   half and full-day visits. Long-stay visits. Overnight stays in furnished tents.
  •   3–6 photography workshops
  •   caregiver experiences – help with feeding, medical checks and research
  •   bird watching and evening fruit bat watching


Mabamba swamp – birding & relaxing ride in a local fishing boat
Mabamba is located just over a hour from Kampala. Enjoy a ride in a local fishing boat taking you through the swamp channels and out into the open water towards Lake Victoria. Look for the wetland bird species to be found here including the famous Shoebill or just enjoy ‘messing around on the water’.




Reptile centre
Visit the reptile centre to see a variety of rescued snakes and other reptiles, then enjoy a short walk to the swamp on the edge of Lake Victoria. 






Kampala City tour
Using an open-top bus or your private vehicle, visit many of Kampala’s interesting sites. Tours could include: cultural, historical & religious sites, guided slum walks and local markets.





Traditional music and dance performances
Your stay in Kampala will not be complete without a visit to Ndere Troupe’s evening cultural performance in a purpose-built outdoor arena. Watch as the troupe performs tribal dances from each region of Uganda accompanied by music played on traditional instruments. Enjoy a traditional buffet supper and drinks as you watch the show.
