Primates & Wildlife (3 nights)

This Venture Uganda Short Break takes you to Kibale forest to see the many types of primates found there including the delightful chimps who you will spend a morning tracking. Then it’s on to Queen Elizabeth national park in search of more animals and birds both on a game drive and a boat cruise.


Day 1: Early morning pick-up in Kampala/Entebbe. Travel to Kibale Forest National Park. Nature walk at Bigodi swamp searching for primates and birds.

Day 2: Chimpanzee  tracking the in Kibale Forest National Park. Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park through the crater lakes region.

Day 3:  Early morning game drive around the park. Take an afternoon boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel.

Day 4: Return to Kampala/Entebbe via the equator. Arrive in the early evening, when your tour finishes.

Full itinerary

Day 1: Your guide will collect you bright and early from an agreed meeting point in Kampala or Entebbe (accommodation not included). You will then travel west to Fort Portal through beautiful rural Uganda. After lunch in town, you continue for another hour to Kibale forest and check-in to your hotel before visiting Bigodi swamp. This community conservation project is home to an amazing array of birds including the Green-breasted Pita and numerous primates such as Red Colobus monkeys, Grey-cheeked managbeys, Red-tailed monkeys, L’hoest’s monkeys and many more.

Day 2: Join your group at 8:00am for chimp tracking in the forest. Spend the morning tracking these lovely creatures and watching them in their natural habitat. Then after lunch, travel through the beautiful crater lakes regions, in the shadows of the Mountains of the Moon, to Queen Elizabeth national park on the floor of the Albertine Rift Valley.

Day 3: Get up early to see the park as it comes to life on a dawn game drive. Queen is one of Uganda’s most popular parks and has a wide range of habitats providing a home for big game like lions, elephant, leopards, smaller mammals such as wart hogs and antelope and over 600 bird species. Queen also offers stunning scenery including views over the salt lakes and explosion craters. In the afternoon there is a chance to see more wildlife on a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel which links Lakes Edward and George. Here the banks are lined with elephant, hippos, buffalo, crocodiles and birds such as Kingfishers and African Fish Eagles.

Day 4: As you leave Queen, you pass through its southern sector with a chance of seeing more wildlife and some particularly stunning scenery, from the Maramagambo forest to the Rift Valley escarpment. Then you continue you journey, stopping for lunch en route and for some photos at the equator. You guide will drop you in Kampala/Entebbe in the late afternoon (accommodation not included).

Optional activities

  1. Visit to the Top of the World near Kibale for amazing views of the Rwenzori Mountains and the crater lakes ( if time allows)
  2. Visit to community crafts en route to Queen (beekeeping & candle making, rafia dying and basket weaving, coffee visit)


  1. One or two extra nights in Queen, in search of tree-climbing lions or visiting Kyabura Gorge, explosion craters, bat caves or salt lakes
  2. One or two extra nights in Semliki national park, visiting Sempaya hot springs, or walking in the Palm forest near the Congo border
  3. Two extra nights for gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable forest
  4. Extra time in Kampala or Entebbe for craft shopping, sight-seeing, botanical gardens, Ngamba Island Chimp Sanctuary

Guide Prices

Venture Uganda offers this short break at three different levels: budget, mid-range and high-end. The difference between them depends mainly on the class of accommodation and restaurants used. Please note that in some locations accommodation is limited and only one class may be available. These are only guide prices; we will provide an exact quote, upon enquiry, when we know the number of people, chosen dates, preferred accommodation and transport, and changes to the itinerary e.g. options and extensions.

Budget: $1,560 US Dollars, per person

Mid-range: $1,900 US Dollars, per person

High-end: $2,600 US Dollars, per person

Accommodation: Prices are based on two people sharing twin/double rooms on a full-board basis. We are happy to quote for groups. A single room supplement will apply.

If available, most hotels and lodges charge extra for air-conditioned rooms so if you would like AC please note this on your booking form.

The hotels included in this package depend upon availability. Once we receive your booking we will check availability and should we find them fully booked we will offer you an alternative of the same standard for your approval.

Discounts may be available for Ugandan/East African citizens, children or for low season bookings (Apr, May, Oct, Nov).

Bookings can be made on our Booking Form and are subject to our Booking Conditions including our cancellation policy.

Payment: a 50% deposit is required upon booking, along with full payment for gorilla and chimp permits, with the final payment due 70 days before the start of the trip. Prices are charged in USD.

Payment can be made by bank transfer. Beware of email fraudsters – we will never ask you to pay by any other means such as Western Union or Money Transfer.

Gorilla and chimp tracking permits are subject to availability. We recommend very early booking if possible, especially in peak season (Dec–Mar and June–Sept). If permits are not available on your chosen dates, we may be able to run the trip in reverse order or alter the
itinerary to fit.

Note: The Uganda Wildlife Authority does not allow children under the age of 15 years to track gorillas and children under 12 years to track chimpanzees.



Choose between our touring vans which are used as standard in our safaris and short breaks or upgrade to a Land Cruiser for an extra USD $450 (divided by the number of people travelling).

  1. Standard: ‘Super Custom’ van (max 5-seater). A very comfortable 4×4 touring van
  2. Standard: ‘Hiace’ van (max 7-seater). A practical, tough touring van
  3. High-end: extended Land Cruiser (max 7-seater). A comfortable safari vehicle

All vehicles are 4×4 and have a pop-up roof. All passengers have window seats and seat belts. Expenses for the guide/fuel/park entrance/washing/parking are included in the price.

For your own comfort, we request you pack carefully and do not bring too much luggage.
