Full itinerary

Day 1: Your guide will collect you bright and early from an agreed meeting point in Kampala or Entebbe. You will then travel to Mabamba swamp for an exciting morning’s birding.  Travel, through the channels of the swamp in a small boat in search of the famous Shoebill – a huge, prehistoric looking bird. Although it can be shy there is a good chance of seeing it and a wonderful variety of wetland  birds as well, as enjoy the relaxed pace of swamp travel.

After lunch, you continue your journey to Lake Mburo national park arriving in the late afternoon. Then take a little time to relax and perhaps enjoy a cool drink before heading into the park for a game drive. Lake Mburo is one of only two parks in Uganda that have zebra and it is also home to buffalo, impala, warthogs, topi, leopards and a variety of other mammals and birds.

Day 2: You start your second day with a fantastic morning boat cruise as the lake come to life. You can expect to see hippos and crocodiles but perhaps the best part is the birdlife including the spectacular African Fish Eagles amongst others. After the boat cruise, and some light refreshments, it’s time to stretch your legs with a nature walk to enjoy the flora and fauna and, of course, the wonderful views.

In the afternoon, you can either relax and soak up the sunshine at your lodge or enjoy some of the optional activities the park has to offer. Wherever you stay, the evening will offer further options to enjoy the park’s wildlife roaming around your lodge, coming to the watering hole or feeding nearby.

Day 3: There is a leisurely start to day three, as you enjoy some more sights and sounds of the park and then take your final game drive as you exit the park. You will stop at the Equator for lunch, the obligatory photo with one foot in each hemisphere and a little craft shopping before returning to Kampala/Entebbe in the early evening where your short break with us comes to an end.
