Discover Uganda on the water – boat trips and river cruises

For a vantage point with a difference, why not discover Uganda on the water? Whether you want your experience to be exhilarating or relaxing, thanks to its many rivers and lakes, Uganda has it covered.

The source of the Nile

Jinja, which has a reputation as the adrenaline capital of East Africa, offers a choice of more serene pursuits too. These include a guided trip to the source of the Nile or a sunset cruise on Lake Victoria with a BBQ and beer.

If you’re feeling slightly more adventurous, you can also enjoy kayaking in the gentler waters. It’s the perfect way to relax while taking in the sights and sounds at the source of the world’s longest river. (Don’t forget your camera to capture the gorgeous scenery and the host of wildlife who gather around the shore.)

Meanwhile, for thrill-seekers, white water rafting is an activity not to be missed. Just imagine powering along the Nile at amazing speeds and racing through the rapids.

Discover Uganda on the water: A Kazinga Channel boat cruise

For those who are interested in wildlife, travelling through some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes by boat is an unforgettable experience.

Game-viewing cruises on the Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park, give travellers an up-close view of one of the largest groups of hippos in the world as well as crocodiles, buffalo and elephants.

Boating along the channel, which connects Lake George and Lake Edward, is also an opportunity to spot birdlife including fish eagles, Goliath herons and Hamerkops.

Other popular birdwatching destinations which visitors can explore by boat include:

  • Lake Mburo
  • Lake Bunyonyi
  • Murchison Falls National Park (a boat cruise up the Nile stops at the base of the falls before a 30-minute trek to the top to enjoy amazing views)

Many of our specialist safaris include a boat trip as part of the itinerary but if you would like us to incorporate any of the places featured in this blog as part of a tailor-made holiday, email us at enquiries@ventureuganda.org or complete our enquiry form.
