This itinerary takes you along the less well-travelled routes to experience some of Uganda’s fascinating cultures, extraordinary wildlife and spectacular scenery.

Release your inner explorer; get off-the-beaten-track and see eastern and northern Uganda on a trip designed with time to dig a little deeper into Ugandan life. Drive through fascinating towns and villages; hike through beautiful countryside to remote locations; stop and chat with some of those you meet along the way; try your hand at various activities from coffee brewing to local crafts. And, of course, woven into this tour are opportunities to enjoy the amazing wildlife that is also such a part of Uganda.

Your guide will be with you all the way, sharing their vast knowledge of Uganda’s people, places and wild spaces and ensuring you get the most out of your visit.

Day 4: Transfer to Pian Upe game reserve. Game drive. Continue to Moroto

Day 5: Visit the Tepeth, a unique tribe on Mt Moroto. Spend an evening with the herdsmen

Day 6: Visit Nakapelimoru, a huge traditional village. Continue to Kidepo

Day 7: Morning game drive. Nature walk in Kidepo Valley national park

Day 8: Game drive in the savannah. Evening game drive

Day 9: Travel to Murchison Falls National Park via Gulu. Relax at your lodge.

Day 10: Game drive in Murchison Falls National Park. Boat ride to the Nile

Day 11: Chimpanzee tracking in Budongo forest. Visit the top of the falls

Day 12: Drive to Masindi and visit a mango farm. Continue to Ziwa for rhino tracking

Day 13: Shoebill search. Transfer to Entebbe. Visit the craft market. Evening flight 

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 - Evening arrival at Entebbe International Airport

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by your guide who will transfer you to your hotel, a short drive from the airport.

Accommodation: Boma Hotel – Entebbe.

Meal plan: dinner available for purchase at your hotel until 22:00

 

Day 2 -Drive to Sipi and learn about processing coffee

Enjoy the sights and sounds of rural Uganda as you make your way east, to Sipi (approx. 4 hours). Check into your lodge and, later, visit a local farm and learn about producing coffee, ‘from garden to cup’. Depending on the season, participate in planting, harvesting, pounding, roasting and even preparing a cup for yourself.

Accommodation: Home of Friends Guest House – Kapchorwa.

Day 3 - Hike to the Sipi waterfalls

Sipi has 3 waterfalls: upper, middle, and lower. Choose the route of your hike, with options to visit all 3 falls, passing through the local community. The views are outstanding. If you choose a shorter hike, you are free to relax back at the lodge afterwards and perhaps enjoy the birds in the gardens or wander locally with a community guide.

Day 4 -Transfer to Pian Upe. Game drive. Continue to Moroto

Drive for about 2 hours to Pian Upe wildlife reserve, stopping along the way whenever something catches your eye – perhaps beautiful scenery, local businesses or activities on the road or in the fields.  Take a game drive in the reserve and look out for giraffe, Uganda Kob, buffalo and other wildlife and, if you’re lucky, maybe a cheetah. Keep your eyes peeled for ostrich and roan antelope too. Continue your journey to Moroto (approx. 2 hours)

Day 5 - Visit the Tepeth tribe on Mt Moroto. Spend an evening with the herdsmen of Karamoja.

This morning, take a guided hike to the Tepeth community who live on Mt. Moroto. Learn about their culture, lifestyle and traditions and join some of them, as they go about their daily business. The views from the mountain across the plains below are breathtaking. Spend your evening in the kraal with these nomadic cattle keepers to experience more of their pastoral life before returning to Moroto.

Day 6 -Visit Nakapelimoru, a traditional village. Continue to Kidepo

08:00 transfer to Nakapelimoru (approx. 2 hours) and visit the East Africa’s largest traditional village to witness traditional village life in this region. See housing, animal husbandry, transport, agricultural practices and more. Continue to Kidepo Valley national park (approx. 4 hours).

Day 7 - Morning game drive. Enjoy a nature walk in Uganda’s wilderness.

Take a morning game drive in this stunningly beautiful park and look out for zebra, giraffe, eland, elephant and lion. Explore far and wide in the vast, wild place and then, later, take a 2-hour guided safari walk to get closer to the animals and experience the park from a different angle.

Day 8 - Explore Kidepo Valley savannah stretches. Evening game drive

Take another day to explore this amazing park which ranks among Africa’s finest wildernesses and is home to a host of wildlife including large herds of buffalos and antelopes. It’s also home to over 475 bird species including Kidepo Lark, Somali Bunting, Northern White-crowned Shrike, African Green Bee-eater and Foxy Cisticola.  In the evening, explore more park corners on an evening game drive.

Day 9 - Travel to Murchison Falls national park via Gulu. Relax at your lodge

08:00 drive for approx. 5 hours to Gulu, an ancient slave trading town, full of history. Have lunch and continue to Murchison Falls national park – Uganda’s largest conservation area approx. 2 hours away seeing a range of wildlife as you travel through the park and across the Nile to your lodge. Check-in and relax, ready for the next day’s adventure.

Day 10 - Game drive in Murchison Falls National Park. Boat ride to the bottom of the falls.

06:00 Your day starts early in this amazing park, when animals are most active. Search for lions, elephants, buffalos, hartebeest, antelopes, and tropical birds.  After lunch, enjoy a relaxing boat cruise on the Nile to the bottom of Murchison falls, where you will see animals along the riverbanks, as well as a wealth of birds.

Day 11: Chimpanzee tracking in Budongo forest. Visit the top of the falls

07:30 after an early morning briefing with your small group (max. 8 pax), your ranger will take you tracking chimpanzees in Budongo forest. Once you find the chimpanzees, you will spend a fantastic hour watching their daily activities and behaviour. Later, visit the top of the falls for magnificent views over the falls and the park. Enjoy a relaxed evening at your lodge.

Day 12: Drive to Masindi. Visit a mango farm. Rhino tracking

08:00 Travel to Masindi approx. 2 hours away and visit a mango farm. Learn how mangoes are processed into wine and juice. Sample these tasty products before enjoying lunch with the host. Continue to Ziwa rhino sanctuary (approx. 1 hour). On arrival, take a guided nature walk around the sanctuary and see the rhino up close, along with other animals and birds.

Day 13: Shoebill search. Travel to Entebbe

06:00 Take a relaxing canoe ride through the swamp in a small fishing boat, in search of the globally threatened Shoebill and other water birds (3-4 hours). Return to Entebbe for lunch and relax in town perhaps visiting the craft village, wandering at the botanical gardens or swimming in a hotel pool before transferring to the airport for your flight home.
