New boat for Kisoro to continue delighting clients on Mabamba wetlands

Venture Uganda Travel has been saving up for a new boat for Kisoro (real name Charles) and our lovely clients, Simon and Emma, have very kindly contributed towards it. At the weekend, at the end of their holiday, they joined us at Mabamba wetlands to ‘hand over’ the boat.

Kisoro always takes our clients birding in his (slightly old) boat and usually works with the excellent bird guide, Maria. Both are members of the local community.

When searching for a Shoebill deep in the reeds where a boat’s engine cannot be used, Kisoro and Maria work so hard to punt and Kisoro is often out of the boat, waist-deep in water, pushing the boat through.

We felt it would be nice to give visitors a slightly more comfortable experience and Kisoro and Maria were the obvious choice as they provide such good service – they are reliable, knowledgeable and always go the extra mile to ensure clients enjoy a fabulous birding experience.

Tourism has really contributed to development in Mabamba and, in turn, the community are helping to protect the swamp and its inhabitants. Win-win.
