Why Uganda & Rwanda? Let’s Start With the Primates
Not to blow our own trumpet, but we are proud to say we have it all: sunshine, wildlife, scenery, outdoor activities, culture, and best of all, our friendly and welcoming people.
But let’s start with the wildlife and something that sets us apart from other destinations – the primates! We are the only two countries in the world where you can safely see endangered mountain gorillas, and moreover, in a World Heritage Site! How special is that?
And you know we have chimpanzees – lots of them – but did you know about the other primates? Blue monkeys, Patas monkeys, Olive baboons, Red colobus monkeys, Red-tailed monkeys, Vervet monkeys, Black-and-white colobus monkeys, L’Hoest’s monkeys … you get the point.
You’ll gain fascinating insights from your safari guide and park rangers, and learn about amazing primate conservation efforts too.
We’d also like to take a moment to recognise Dr. Jane Goodall, who recently passed away. She was hugely inspiring and played a vital role in primate research and conservation in our countries over many years. She will be deeply missed.
Check Out the Other Wildlife Too
Just like other East African destinations, we are home to the Big Five (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, and rhino) and countless other mammals, big and small. And don’t forget the reptiles and insects, too.
With so many ways to see an array of wildlife, from forest walks and scenic boat cruises to game drives and mountain hikes, every experience with these creatures is magical.
See the tree-climbing lions at Queen Elizabeth National Park or the white rhinos at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. Watch in awe as you drive through Akagera National Park and spot the Big Five in their natural habitat.
And how about a visit to the Reptile Village in Entebbe, Uganda, where you can come face-to-face with 50 fascinating reptiles, including chameleons, snakes, monitor lizards, and tortoises? There’s a whole world of wildlife waiting for you.

For The Love of Birds
Another feature that makes these two destinations so special is the birdlife. Uganda is home to over 1,000 bird species, including sought-after birds like the Shoebill, Green-breasted Pitta, and 23 Albertine Rift endemics (ARE). Rwanda, too, has fantastic birding destinations and specialist guides to enhance your experience.
Here’s one must-visit recommendation for your itinerary – Nyungwe, a 1,000 sq. km national park in Rwanda. Birding enthusiasts especially will enjoy a birding and nature walk through this ancient forest along one of its 15 trails, including a stunning canopy walk. With over 320 species (27 of which are ARE), you won’t be disappointed.

Community and Cultural Visits
While you get to know our wildlife, why not get to know our people too – and find out what makes these countries tick? Your visit would also help to support community members.
There are many ways you can make a positive impact during your holiday. When you go gorilla tracking in Uganda, you might visit Conservation Through Public Health (CTPH), a local organisation working on gorilla conservation and community development.
Meanwhile, in Rwanda, you can visit the Gorilla Guardians Cultural Village, a community once affected by poaching but, thanks to community tourism, now benefiting both local people and wildlife.
There are plenty of other community and cultural visits to choose from. This itinerary includes community activities like a coffee farm visit and banana gin making.

Unwind this Winter
A holiday isn’t truly a holiday without some rest – especially when the hot sun is shining. So, don’t forget to add some downtime to your itinerary, too.
Imagine sipping fresh juice while relaxing lakeside and admiring the view. How about a leisurely boat cruise as you watch the wildlife?
Perhaps a post–game drive G&T in the bush, watching the sun go down? Or maybe a swim in the private pool of your luxury lodge.
We have so many ways to ensure you go home feeling relaxed and refreshed, with some magical memories made and extraordinary tales to tell.
If you’re ready to ditch the grey skies for golden sunsets, speak to us and we’ll book you an epic winter break.
